« | Psalm 9 | » |
1 For the end, A Psalm of David, concerning the secrets of the Son. I will give thanks to You, O Lord, with my whole heart; I will recount all Your wonderful works.
2 I will be glad and exalt in You: I will sing to Your name, O Most High.
3 When my enemies are turned back, they shall be feeble and perish at Your presence.
4 For You have maintained my cause and my right; You sat on the throne, that judges in righteousness.
5 You have rebuked the nations, and the ungodly one has perished; You have blotted out their name forever, even forever and ever.
6 The swords of the enemy have failed utterly; and you have destroyed cities: their memorial has been destroyed with a noise,
7 but the Lord endures forever; He has prepared His throne for judgment.
8 And He will judge the world in righteousness, He will judge the nations in uprightness.
9 The Lord also has become a refuge for the poor, a seasonable help, in affliction.
10 And let them that know Your name hope in You- for You, O Lord, have not failed them that diligently seek You.
11 Sing praises to the Lord, who dwells in Zion: declare His dealings among the nations.
12 For He remembered them, [in] making inquisition for blood; He has not forgotten the supplication of the poor.
13 Have mercy upon me, O Lord; look upon my affliction [which I suffer] from my enemies, You that lift me up from the gates of death:
14 that I may declare all Your praises in the gates of the daughter of Zion: I will rejoice in Your salvation.
15 The heathen are caught in the destruction which they planned: in the very snare which they hid is their foot taken.
16 The Lord is known as executing judgments: the sinner is taken in the works of his hands. Pause.
17 Let sinners be driven away into Hades, [even] all the nations that forget God.
18 For the poor shall not be forgotten forever; the patience of the needy ones shall not perish forever.
19 Arise, O Lord, let not man prevail: let the heathen be judged before You.
20 Appoint, O Lord, a lawgiver over them: let the heathen know that they are men. Pause.
The Apostles’ Bible Complete (ABC)
The Apostles’ Bible Complete (ABC) is a modern translation of the Bible that strives to offer a clear and faithful rendering of the scriptures in contemporary language. This translation is designed to be accessible to a wide audience, providing an easy-to-read yet accurate version of the biblical text. The ABC translation aims to bridge the gap between the ancient languages in which the Bible was originally written and the modern vernacular, making it an ideal choice for both personal study and public reading.
One of the notable features of the Apostles’ Bible Complete is its dedication to maintaining the integrity of the original manuscripts. The translators of the ABC worked meticulously with the Hebrew, Aramaic, and Greek texts to ensure that their translation accurately reflects the original meaning and intent of the scriptures. By employing a balance of formal equivalence (word-for-word) and dynamic equivalence (thought-for-thought) translation techniques, the ABC aims to preserve the nuances and richness of the original languages while ensuring readability and clarity for modern readers.
The ABC also incorporates extensive cross-references and study aids to enhance the reader’s understanding of the biblical text. These tools include footnotes that provide historical and cultural context, as well as explanations of difficult or ambiguous passages. This approach helps readers to grasp the deeper meanings of the scriptures and to see how different parts of the Bible interconnect. The inclusion of these study aids makes the ABC particularly useful for those who are new to the Bible, as well as for more experienced readers who are looking to deepen their understanding of the text.
Despite its strengths, the Apostles’ Bible Complete has faced some criticisms. Some readers feel that the translation could benefit from further refinement in certain passages, as the balance between formal and dynamic equivalence can sometimes lead to inconsistencies in style and tone. Others have noted that while the study aids are helpful, they can occasionally overwhelm the main text, making it difficult to focus on the scripture itself. Nonetheless, the ABC remains a valuable and respected translation, appreciated for its commitment to accuracy, clarity, and accessibility, and for its ability to bring the ancient words of the Bible to life for contemporary readers.
